{"id":954,"date":"2023-03-08T21:17:04","date_gmt":"2023-03-08T21:17:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bursucretleri.com\/blog\/?p=954"},"modified":"2023-03-23T09:23:50","modified_gmt":"2023-03-23T09:23:50","slug":"are-you-organized-for-failure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bursucretleri.com\/blog\/are-you-organized-for-failure\/","title":{"rendered":"Are You Organized For Failure?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Clay Shirky\u2019s book,\u00a0<em>Here Comes Everybody \u2013 The Power Of Organizing Without Organizations<\/em>\u00a0is essential reading for everyone seeking to understand how our world has been redefined by the web.\u00a0 I threw sticky notes in a few pages and wanted to highlight a quote that warrants more discussion.\u00a0 This is from page 246, where the\u00a0open source\u00a0movement is being discussed:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In traditional organizations, trying anything is expensive, even if just in staff time to discuss the idea, so someone must make some attempt to filter the successes from the failures in advance.\u00a0 In open systems, the cost of trying something is so low that handicapping the likelihood of success is often an unnecessary distraction.\u00a0 Even in a firm committed to experimentation, considerable work goes into reducing the likelihood of failure.\u00a0 This doesn\u2019t mean that open source communities don\u2019t discuss \u2014 on the contrary, they have more discussions than in managed production because no one is in a position to compel work on a particular project.\u00a0 Open systems, by reducing the cost of failure, enable their participants to fail like crazy, building on successes as they go.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is a game-changer for your business.<\/p>\n<p>Using digital communications tools allows you to try everything out and see what sticks.\u00a0 It allows you to embrace failure at minimal or zero cost.\u00a0 Technology enables you to open source parts of your business.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The most successful people and organizations fail\u00a0<\/strong><strong>far more than they succeed.<\/strong>\u00a0You just only hear about the successes.\u00a0 No one creates a blockbuster every time.\u00a0 But if you are organized for failure, ready to embrace it and learn from it while building a knowledge base, it can be a winning strategy.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There is no longer a cost barrier to sharing your organization\u2019s thoughts, potential new products and potential new services directly with your consumers and seeing what resonates.<\/li>\n<li>There is no longer a cost to spread messages, images, videos, coupons, run special offers\/LTOs, etc.<\/li>\n<li>There is no longer a cost to create highly relevant focus groups at your whim if you\u2019re organized for it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are just a few areas where being setup for failure enables the freedom to easily experiment.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re organized for failure, you don\u2019t have to give the market what you think it might want.\u00a0 You can give the market what it didn\u2019t even realize it wanted until you stumbled upon it by putting the idea out there.\u00a0 And, you are far more open to stumbling upon potential hit ideas if you are able to fail like crazy.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cDon\u2019t worry about people stealing your ideas.
